Safety
The ground for going deep.
Safety is the ground everything else stands on, because a dieta only goes as deep as the container that holds it. The work is hard, but you are held safely and consistently before, during and after.
Some people have sat with the medicine before and want to go further. Some are looking for a first dieta and a place that feels right for it. Others found less care somewhere than they needed and want to know that this time will be different.
Wherever you are coming from, what matters is that you want to do this properly, in a place that takes it as seriously as you do.
Three foundations hold this work. They are what make the experience safe, productive and genuinely lifechanging.
The ground for going deep.
Safety is the ground everything else stands on, because a dieta only goes as deep as the container that holds it. The work is hard, but you are held safely and consistently before, during and after.
Clean medicine, honest relationships.
A real family lineage of healers, medicine practiced in the traditional way and non-exploitative relationships at the core of everything.
So the work stays with you.
Real preparation before, a powerful experience in the jungle and continual energetic and integration support afterwards. We want what opens in dieta to take root for the rest of your life, not just a few weeks.
Everyone you meet here is part of the family: the maestros who hold the ceremonies, the men tending the land and the women nurturing the space, all working together to honour their tradition and hold you throughout your process. You arrive as a guest, step into Shipibo culture and leave as a family member.
Marisela was ten when she began her master plant dietas, under the guidance of her great-grandmother. More than forty years of work with the plants have followed, including around seventeen working as a master healer in well-known centres. Today she owns and runs her own centre alongside her family. With decades of dietas, experience healing others, and knowledge of more than three hundred medicinal plants, she is a genuine, reliable expert in indigenous medicine.
“I like supporting people to give themselves over to the plant, because the plants give you wisdom, and among many other things they also give you peace and a great deal of knowledge. I love my lineage and my customs of natural medicine.”
There are always multiple family members present during your dieta. Marisela leads the dieta and ceremonies, but other family members are always present, supporting and caring for your needs. Whether that is one-to-one healing in ceremony, preparing your food and plant baths, cleaning your space, or anything else you require, there is always someone available to help.
The family holds you through the whole dieta, in the jungle and long after you leave. My work is to support that: safety screening, preparation, logistics, tips and techniques, cultural understanding and more, so you can arrive as ready as you can be. Then, once you leave the jungle, I draw on years of experience and training to help you reorient and ground your experience into positive lasting change.
My background is in teaching and coaching, alongside years of experience working with Ayahuasca, the Shipibo culture, master plant dietas and retreat guests, and ICEERS for ongoing safety and integration training. It is of the utmost importance to me to help you manage your own dieta as safely and productively as possible, whilst being present whenever you feel you need additional support.
From the first moment of commitment, you are held. Through initial contact and safety screening with Cameron, through the preparation, logistics, dieta itself and then reorientation back into ‘ordinary’ life. Marisela will also begin supporting you energetically from afar before you ever travel, then holds you through your jungle experience and afterwards. During the dieta, the family are always present to your needs and once you are home, alongside Cameron’s integration support, Marisela’s care continues through distance healings, alignments and energetic work. Care is ongoing and personalised throughout the experience, with multiple people present when needed, for whatever comes up, with no limit on time.
A small, private place between the jungle and the water, around 45 minutes from the city and a world away from it.
A Shipibo master plant dieta is a serious, profound and lifechanging commitment. It’s not for everyone, and that’s okay.
A complete master plant dieta with the family. The shape is below; the day-to-day is confirmed with you in conversation.
A shorter, but powerful dieta with one plant for those ready to step in within a focused window.
More time with the plant(s) and the family for a deeper, more profound dieta. All tree dietas are at least 2 weeks.
The deepest of the three. Often with more than one plant or tree and extended post-dietas for the strongest possible dieta.
Please note: these timelines cover the time spent in the jungle only. Initial preparation support will take at least two weeks and dieta restrictions can last weeks-months beyond your leaving date to allow the planted seed(s) to root and flourish.
100% of the retreat fee is always paid directly to the family. This ensures they’re rewarded for their amazing work, but also prevents exploitative relations. Studies have shown that professional integration support supports client safety and lasting results. However, it usually works by taking money from the family, charging the client increasingly more, or leaving the guest to deal with new, intense challenges by themself because they did not pay. We believe integration support should be accessible to all and free from exploitative relations, so what would normally cost $849–$2,499 is included for free and supported by heart-felt donations.
The truth of the matter is that a good master plant dieta will usually be extremely difficult at least once, with ongoing tests over the duration. It will push you to your limits, but this is what allows you to grow. What matters is that you are in a safe container that facilitates positive change, which is what we have created through our health and safety screening, pre-preparation, onsite measures and ongoing post-jungle integration support. Any additional questions on specifics can be asked and clarified directly with us.
Safety comes first, not last. Everyone completes a health and safety intake before travelling and not everyone is cleared to attend. Cameron has completed various training, including Ayahuasca Safety training with ICEERS, and works with Maricela to conduct initial health screening and ensure anyone who comes will be mentally, physically and energetically safe. Any particular ailments or concerns can be discussed directly and considered before any formal commitments are made from any party. All we ask is that you are fully honest and transparent in the initial consultation.
To be honest in the initial health and safety screenings and throughout the experience, honour the diet and its restrictions, and to show up to the work. Maricela and her team guide and hold you, but the work itself is yours to do.
